GUILSFIELD maintained their fine tradition in the Welsh Primary Schools Active Hockey competition with a top four finish.

Maldwyn Leisure Centre in Newtown hosted the national finals for the event, which had seen over 153 teams enter.

Guilsfield battled their way to a respectable fourth place to the delight of coach Judy Birch, who said: “The children gave a good performance and to be placed fourth out of 153 teams in Wales deserves praise.”

Guilsfield were only beaten by one goal against Rougemont Primary School of Newport, who went on to win the competition.

Welsh international Dawn Mitchell was among the interested spectators

Powys sports development officer Katie Hamer said: “It was great having Dawn at the Welsh Finals as the players really looked up to her.”
