THE North Wales Exiles defied all the odds to be crowned International Open Champions at the Manchester Sevens.
In a nail biting all-Welsh final, they came from behind to clinch a 31-29 victory with almost the last kick of the game against one of the biggest names in sevens rugby.
Seven Rhyl Rugby Club players were part of the victorious squad who outplayed the world famous Mel’ s Exiles in a tense finale, with North Wales having become one of the most talked about sevens teams in Wales just months after reforming.
After finishing top of their group, in the quarter-finals they completely outplayed a Lancashire side, boasting several members of the Sale team, and then outclassed pre-tournament favourites Susies Sevens in their semi-final.
