A KINMEL Bay church will be swapping hymns for football chants during England’s World Cup matches.
Kinmel Bay Church, on St Asaph Avenue, plans to screen England’s three qualifying matches on their big screen, accompanied by activities for all the family.
Rev. Gwyn Parry, 42, is keen to get people involved, saying that this is not just for the dads.
“Originally, we assumed that this would be a dad-only event, but we were quite surprised to find that the mums and a lot of other ladies wanted to watch the matches as well!”
He added “We’ve got separate entertainment for the children, so the parents can cheer in peace without having the kids at their feet!”
On June 18, the church will be holding a curry night as a precursor to England’s match against Algeria. June 23 will see the church holding a family barbecue after their match against Slovenia.
Mr Parry added that there would be a “friendly rivalry” at the church, due to the presence of a German member of staff.
He said “Obviously there’s a long history between England and Germany when it comes to football - though we know that England are going to beat them again this time!”
All events held at the church are free, and everyone is welcome to join.
