Surgeons attempt to fix my knee, and US in the World Cup

LAST week I went into hospital for surgery on my knee. It has been a problem for me since the start of the season.

After draining it four times, as well as having a cortezone and synvisc injections to try and clear the problem, nothing seemed to be working so I decided to have a clean up – after going into my knee they found cartilage floating everywhere and a torn miniskus so I’m hoping to be back playing in six weeks.

Since my last game we have lost three league games in a row but showed lots of character by winning our last two matches after hard fought wins against Houston and LA Chivas.

We currently sit joint top of the eastern conference with Colombus on 21 points.
We now have a 10-day break for the World Cup so I have managed to find the time to take the family away to Atlantis in the Bahamas.

It is a beautiful place with warm weather, golden sand and lots of kids stuff to do. I am here for a week but this is a good time for a break for me as it allows me 10 days extra for recovery as I look at a return to action in late June.

The World Cup starts in a few days and England’s preparations were hit hard with Rio Ferdinand ruled out – one of many players set to miss out through injury.

What that tells me is either you’re very unlucky or it is that you have played too many games throughout the season without a break.

It’s a shame as the best tournament in the world won’t have some of the best players.  I’m sure it promises to be a great event, especially the progress of England and their match against the US next saturday.

I know that listening to people over here they firmly believe that they can shock the English come first game.

I fancy either Argentina or the Netherlands to win it with USA to shock England next week too.

Closer to home the New York Challenge Cup has been arranged for July when we get to play Manchester City, Spurs and Sporting Lisbon.

This after playing against Juventus last week the attraction of playing your football in New York is fast becoming very strong for me.
