FORMER Wales midfielder Carl Robinson has played in the MLS for a number of years, firstly with Toronto FC and now with New York Red Bulls.
With England playing the USA in their opening World Cup match in South Africa on Saturday, here he gives his exclusive view on the US squad.
"With England's opening game against the US fast approaching I'll give you an insight of the US squad.
"Talk is cheap nowadays but there seems a real confidence that they can suprise England. With a number of players playing in England, this might help them to get the better of them."
Goalkeepers:
Brad Guzan (Aston Villa) - young keeper who probably won't be used. Will be there for many World Cups to come.
Tim Howard (Everton) - No 1, loved and adored by fans and his stats back it up. Will need to come up big.
Marcus Hahnemann (Wolves) - Wolves stopper will act as back up. Excellent experience and might well be used.
Defenders:
Carlos Bocanegra (Rennes) - Vice catain, a big player. Great organiser and competitor.
Jonathan Bornstein (Chivas USA) - Playing in major league soccer and is known to be one of best defenders in the league. Superb left foot and great at dead balls.
Steve Cherundolo (Hannover) - Very good player and will start for the US. Will be key if game needs a cool head.
Jay DeMerit (Watford) - Uncompromising defender who will try and wind up opponents. Tough in the tackle, and good talker.
Clarence Goodson (IK Start) - Back up defender who is very solid. Suprised to be in the squad but he might be called upon.
Oguchi Onyewu (AC Milan) - The huge AC Milan defender will be needed to be at his best. Struggled with injury but a massive presence.
Jonathan Spector (West Ham - Solid defender who can play anywhere across the back four. Although prone to errors, his utility will be needed.
Midfielders:
DaMarcus Beasley(unattached) - the former tricky Rangers winger has pace galore. Quality can vary but seems certain to start. Very direct.
Michael Bradley (Borussia Monchengladbach) - Key midfielder who is in the team on merit. Although his dad is manager, he is crucial to the team. Top all round midfielder who can score goals as well.
Ricardo Clark (Eintract Frankfurt) - The holding player is strong in the tackle and plays simple. Whether he will he suit Bradley's style is questionable. Could play a very important part.
Clint Dempsey (Fulham) - As good a player as Donavon and equally as vital. Gets goals from everywhere and English fans will be well aware of him.
Landon Donovan (Los Angeles Galaxy) - The jewel in the crown. Big time player and usually performs in big games. Premiership experience with Everton. Maurice Edu (Rangers) - Young Rangers player who will be hoping to get the nod for starting. Very athletic and can also pop up with a vital goal.
Benny Feilhaber (Aarhus)- Former Derby County who player has great ability, the question is how to use it? On his day he can be unplayable but can also be a passenger.
Stuart Holden (Bolton) - Came to English football midway through last year and although he picked up an injury, he fought back into contention. Very good footballer who shoots from distance.
Jose Torres (Pachuca) - Technically excellent, and could be a big impact player from the bench.
Forwards:
Jozy Altidore (Villarreal) - The big handful of the forwards who spent the season on loan at Hull City. Looks awkward but has a good touch and pace. Loves to bring people into play. Needs to be fit to be on top form!
Edson Buddle (Los Angeles Galaxy) - The big suprise in the squad after a fantasic start to major league soccer. Scored goals in friendly games, although not used at all in qualifying.
Robbie Findley (Real Salt Lake) - Another suprise forward from mls soccer. The Real Salt Lake hitman has pace to burn and might be a handful in latter part of matches.
Herculez Gomez (Puebla) - although not included in qualifying, his form since has been unbelievable. Got that knack of being in the right place at the right time!
