UNIDENTIFIED flying objects - or UFOs - hovering in the sky have puzzled Llandudno residents.

The "strange" bright lights were first reported last week, but have been spotted by star-gazers throughout the weekend as well.

A Rhos on Sea man, who did want to be named, confirmed he first saw the lights on Thursday night.

He said: "Looking from the college towards Llanrhos, the light was burning incredibly bright and just hovering there - so bright you couldn't really see what shape it was. It definitely wasn't a Chinese lantern. it was very strange.
"I called my wife out to have a look and I heard other people shouting so they must have seen it too. It was so bright you couldn't tell how far away it was.
"It was like those picture Christmas cards where the star of Bethlehem is burning really strong. Then it started to fade out. It wasn't completely dark so when it faded you should have been able to see what was causing it, but there was nothing there."

The Pioneer received more reports of lights in the sky on Friday and Saturday night as well, which appeared in the north east over Llandudno for just a few minutes before fading out.

Brian Woosnam, of Llandrillo College And Coastal Astronomy Society and author of the Stars In Your Eyes column, said: "It could be - if not moving - the planet Venus which is very bright in the west after sunset, or if moving the ISS (International Space Station) which can be spotted travelling across the sky. It usually travels from the west of Llandudno to the east of Rhyl area and will be very bright and fade when it gets to the east.
"The only other thing that I have seen is laser lights in the sky. These are used at Rhyl and you can sometimes see them from the beach."

Im not stupid and these did not look like flying lanterns, I have a picture on my mobile phone of this bright orange extremely fast moving thing from three weeks ago. It approached from the Colwyn Bay direction to my home in Deganwy then sped off towards Llandudno at extreme speed it disappeared in seconds I have several pictures which were taken within seconds to show how fast it moved. When i zoom in on my picture it appears round in shape! So what do you think this is? Pictures available.

Just thought I would let you know that I first saw this light on voting day at about 10pm. It was moving pretty fast coming from the direction of Glan Conwy.I got my husband out to take a look it was very bright and as it got closer we saw what looked like flames dropping off it.We had no idea what it was. Lets hope it was chinese lanterns and not the start of 2012!!!!!!!!
