Rhyl Youth 51, Denbigh 20
RHYL won the North Wales Cup for the third year running at Mold RFC on Saturday and will now keep the trophy for good.
It has been an outstanding season for the young Dragons as they also lifted the North Wales League title to become double champions for the second time, having won both last season as well.
In fact the last three years has brought plenty of silverware into the Rhyl club house. In the season 2007-08 Rhyl lifted the cup for the first time and finished runners up in the league under captain Liam Hughes.
In 2008-09, with Mike Hall at the helm, Rhyl lifted the league and cup double and also reached the semi final of the Welsh Cup losing to Merthyr Youth.
This season, led by Dale Blackmore, Rhyl again did the double and reached the semi final of the Welsh Cup this time going down to Glamorgan Wanderers, who had six Welsh internationals in their team.
Two players from this year’s team played in all three cup finals.
Captain Dale Blackmore and centre Kriss Wilkes. In a very entertaining final Denbigh played their part and put in a great effort against a Rhyl team that had beaten them twice this season in the league.
