BALA 10
RHYL 18
BRIDESMAIDS Bala continued this theme as they ended their nearly men season with yet another second place.
With a number of key players missing due to holidays, a weakened Bala lost to SWALEC League Division Two (North) rivals Rhyl in the final of the North Wales Plate.
“We were the better side in the first half, playing against the wind,” said Bala chairman Tony Parry.
However, Rhyl were 8-3 to the good at the break and used their bench to good effect in the second period to run out deserved winners.
“They outplayed us in the second half,” added Parry.
“They deserved it and we were second best, especially in the second half.”
Gareth Owen was Bala’s only points scorer on the day, with a second half try and conversion joining his successful first half penalty.
With plenty of young players in the Bala ranks for Saturday, Parry said: “We have got to be positive for next season, but it goes to show that Rhyl are improving.”
It has been a positive season for the men from Maes Gwyniad, with the club’s first, second and youth teams all finishing second in their respective leagues.
