MANCHESTER United and England football star Michael Owen recently paid a visit to a Chester clubhouse to show his support for local charities.

Michael Owen visited the new clubhouse at the Cheshire County Sports Club, in Upton, Chester, to sign a large amount of memorabilia which will soon be used by numerous good causes to raise funds.

The striker autographed Manchester United shirts and balls, which will be raffled as prizes and sold in auctions to bring much needed income into various charities in and around the Chester area.

More than 25 groups were represented on the night including The Lady Taverners, Breast Cancer Awareness, Claire House, Countess of Chester children’s ward, Idea League UK (Dravet syndrome), Nicola's Fund, Hospice of the Good Shepard and the Round Table.

Local football clubs also benefited from the evening.

Pam Morris, from The Lady Taveners charity, said: “We are very grateful to the Sports Club for hosting this event as it has given a lot of local charities a great opportunity to raise funds.

"Michael was more than happy to spare an hour to help the local community to raise funds for a variety of good causes.

“He’s a really decent guy and always tries to help if he can fit it into his busy schedule.”
