Whilst the Honda Civic is a car that largely appeals to families, the Type R model of the Civic is targeted at younger drivers who are just as interested in speed and performance and having an exciting driving experience as they are in comfort.

The Honda Civic Type R is a tuned up and sportier version of the Honda Civic and is pitching itself against cars such as the Ford Focus RS and Volkswagen Golf GTI – which are both modern design classics in their own right -  and is looking to bring new definitions to the hot hatch market.

The user friendly car has quite a stiff ride as you would expect from a sports car and the stiffened body means that it handles well at corners. Other than the build quality and size, the Civic and the Type R are almost incomparable and offer totally different driving experiences: a real benefit for drivers who trust Honda’s safety record but would like a choice between a fast drive and a quick thrill, and those who would prefer a solid family-friendly journey.

The Honda Civic Type R definitely isn’t understated and its bold design makes it eye-catching: it’s hard not to look at. The aggressive lines on the bodywork, the alloy wheels and rear spoiler all give the car an attitude and aesthetically it is a pretty cool car: whilst its older brother the Honda Civic has often been known for its family-orientated design, the Civic Type R will certainly show car enthusiasts that can do ‘exciting’ as well as ‘safe’.

The interior of the Type R is almost a replication of the outside in its aesthetic daringness: distinctive red seats make it stand out from most cars in its price range, and features such as aluminium foot pedals give it a special feel.

Add to that fact the following: each version of the Civic Type R is given its own unique serial number. This has also helped draw in those drivers who would want something more unique from their driving experience, not to mention on their driveway.

The Type R’s styling is certainly different and that has to be applauded as Honda is pushing the boundaries when it comes to car design with the Civic Type R and you feel that the car might even be ahead of its time when it comes to aesthetics.

The styling of the Type R makes claims that the car is something special and the performance doesn’t disappoint. The 197bhp free revving engine gives the Type R an excellent power to weight ratio that means that its acceleration is out of this world as a result.

Further, the two litre VTEC engine performs extremely well and alongside superb transmission helps make the Type R an engineering masterpiece in which the attention to detail shown is second to none. The three door hatchback is well manufactured, and its design and performance both make you stand up and take notice of the Honda Civic Type R which continues to be at the forefront of the hot hatch market.
