NEWTOWN and District Net-ball Club have a new home to go with their new name.
At the start of the season, the established 40 year old Newtown club relocated to the Flash Leisure Centre in Welshpool and have adopted the new name to reflect this.
The club continues to go from strength to strength, with over 40 members on the club books; with a thriving junior section supporting the established senior set-up, which competes in the fist division of the Shrewsbury League.
The club offers the highest standard of netball in the region and are currently looking at entering their junior side into the competitive Shrewsbury set-up, to ensure the future players of Newtown and District Netball Club can continue their development.
Long-serving club official Lisa Trigg has been involved with the club for over 15 years and remains as committed to their cause as ever, while the club have also benefitted from the coaching experience of Hannah Morgan and Jenny Jones, who are also synonymous with the club.
“Things are going well," said Trigg. "At the start of the season we left Abermule to train at Welshpool's Flash and we felt it was time to reflect that change in our identity, so we decided to rename ourselves Newtown and District."
Seniors train from 8.30 - 9.30am every Saturday, while juniors train from 9.30 - 10.30am.
"The club has gone from strength to strength in the last few years," said Trigg. "It seems a long time ago that we only had 15 players. Nowadays we have a thriving junior set-up, with over 40 players registered, but we are always keen to hear from anyone else who wants to play."
The club have established good relationships with both Caereinion and Welshpool High Schools over the years, and the schools have ensured their pupils have a gateway into competitive netball with the Newtown and District club.
"We have worked hard to develop our coaching and players over the years, and the club is in a good position going into the future," added Trigg.
The club are always on the look-out for new sponsors and are grateful to M Bufton Plumbing and Heating for sponsoring their junior side.
