DUNVANT Male choir from Morriston Swansea will be at Theatr Hafren on March 6 at 7.30pm. The Dunvant Male choir are one of Wales’ leading choirs.

The choir has enjoyed success at the Cardigan Eisteddfod in 2001 and 2002 and at the National Eisteddfod of Wales in August 2002.

The choir travels the length and breadth of Britain to concert engagements, often aiding charities. It has performed at many leading venues including the Royal Albert Hall, (as the sole male choir); King’s College Chapel, Cambridge; Birmingham Town Hall; Usher Hall, Edinburgh, Millennium Centre, Cardiff and several of our great cathedrals. International concert tours have taken the choir on several occasions to the USA, Canada and Germany.

During our North American tour in 1998, six highly successful concerts were given before capacity audiences totalling in excess of 10,000 people.

In the intervening period further overseas tours have resulted in the choir giving concert performances in Spain and Ireland, and representing Wales at the Interceltic Festival in Brittany.

The choir returned to North America in August 2003 having accepted an invitation to perform at “The First North American Festival of Wales” which was held in Vancouver BC. It has toured Ireland on several occasions giving concerts at Dublin, Kilkenny and Kerry to name a few for wonderfully enjoyable concerts.

The Dunvant Choir performs on radio and television and has many CD/ cassette recordings to its credit.

The Dunvant Male Choir also organises the hugely popular Welsh Musical Theatre Young Singer of the Year competition, with a winner’s prize of £1,000 presented annually at the Grand Theatre, Swansea, recent winners now appearing on London’s West End are David Thaxton in Les Miserables, and more notably Connie Fisher the winner of BBC’s How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria, who up until recently was the star of The Sound Of Music.

Local singer Nerys Brown from Carno will be appearing as a guest soloist, and will also be singing pieces with the choir specially prepared for this concert. Nerys was educated at Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London and has enjoyed great success at local and national Eisteddfods.

She has also competed in the Bryn Terfel Scholarship after winning first prize at the National Eisteddfod in 2005.
