A MAN who died while working in woodland near Llanfyllin has been named as Dave Francis. He is believed to have been hiy by a falling tree branch.

It is believed that the man, from Crew Green, had been cutting down trees in woodland behind the Old School in Bwlch y Cibau, near Llanfyllin, when the incident happened at 2.20pm on Wednesday, February 24.

Dyfed Powys Police and the Health & Safety Executive are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of the local forestry worker, employed by Access Hire Services Ltd, of Oswestry.

Access Hire Services Ltd has been involved in power line clearance work since the early 1990s and in that time a continuous programme of work has been completed for Scottish Power.

A spokesperson for Dyfed Powys Police said: “Police received a report from the Ambulance service at approximately 2.20pm that a person had been injured in woodland in Bwlch y Cibau, Llanfyllin.

“It would appear that a man was injured by what appears to be a branch falling from a tree - but an investigation will commence to establish the full circumstances.

“Tragically the man was pronounced dead at the scene.”
