LLANIDLOES High School under 16s finished second in the Welsh Schools Girls’ County Finals held in Swansea last week.

They secured a goalless draw with eventual champions Eryri, before edging a 1-0 win over Cardigan and a 3-0 verdict over Cardiff Vale to qualify for the latter stages as pool winners.

Llanidloes were worthy 3-0 winners over Monmouth in the semi-finals, but their brave challenge faded in the final when Eryri took advantage of a tiring Llanidloes side to edge a 1-0 win.

Several of the girls will return to Swansea as part of Llanidloes High School’s under 18s squad, which won the Powys Finals last week.

Daisy Smith opened the scoring in the final, against South Powys’ representatives Maesydderwen, before Hannah Cannon completed a deserved 2-0 win.

The Llanidloes under 18s girls squad travel to Swansea on March 4.
