CAERSWS were left to focus on their survival battle after crashing out of the Welsh Cup at a snowbound Maes Tegid.

Hosts Bala Town celebrated their second successive victory over the struggling Bluebirds, with the latter securing their first ever quarter-final berth.

However Caersws once again threatened an upset with Matthew Prosser connecting with recent signing Phil Jones’ cross only to be denied by goalkeeper Leon Bimpson early on.

It was not long before the home side forced a breakthrough with ex-Caersws midfield maestro Ricky Evans heading home from close range on five minutes.

Evans was also on hand to double the Lakesiders’ lead and effectively kill the tie when he punished a poor Dave Jones clearance, by lobbing the stranded Caersws No1 from 30 yards.

With the game over as a contest Bala took their foot off the pedal and it was the Bluebirds who asked the majority of the questions in the remainder of the tie.

Bimpson was outstanding and denied Prosser and Jones, before Andy Davies wormed a route to goal only for his curling left-foot shot to clip the bar.

Mark Griffiths battled to the end, with the young striker being denied by a brave intervention from Bimpson as Bala held out to progress.
