THIS week’s trip down Memory Lane features a photograph taken in 1900 of a typical Aberhafesp family.

The scene is believed to have been at the christening of John Jarman Jones, who was born in 1900 and later farmed at Llwydcoed, Aberhafesp.

Pictured, back from left, are the Jones brothers: bachelor Thomas Pryce Jones, 31; bachelor David Ivor Jones, 21; bachelor John Silvanus Jones, 28; and Richard Jones, who was married to Hannah who is seen holding the child.

On the front row is the mother, Margaret Jones, she being the tenant of Rhiewbank at that time. Margaret Jones’ husband, Evan Jones, predeceased her in 1892 at the age of 68, she died in 1902 aged 65.

The young man in the picture was Dan Thomas, who served his apprenticeship with Ivor before later forming his own business in Tregynon.

The photograph was sent in to the County Times by Ivor Davies, formerly of Alltyffynnon, Aberhafesp.
