MACHYNLLETH all but secured promotion courtesy of a comfortable victory over basement boys Welshpool.

Mach now need just one win from their remaining two games to cement a deserved slot in the unified second division.

However Machynlleth found themselves trailing after just five minutes with fly-half Simon Jones converting a penalty for Pool.

Machynlleth hit back in style with tries from wing Aled Jones and centre Jonathan Davies, converted by outside-half Iwan Jones who completed the first-half scoring with an accurate penalty.

The second-half was much the same with Machynlleth dominant, while Welshpool were left to soak up the pressure.

Wing Cameron Simmons-Sandy finally breached the Pool defence to score, before Machynlleth sent on inspirational clubman Dorian Lloyd who soon joined the spree by crossing for a try with Jones converting.

Simmons-Sandy added his second try of the game near the end, before Iwan Jones completed an excellent 13 point haul with a penalty.

Coach Kevin Bryan said: “We are still rusty after our long lay-off, which was evident in our display against Bethesda as well as against Welshpool.

“However we now need just one more win to guarantee ourselves promotion and I have to be pleased because that was our season objective.

“We must strengthen where we can in preparation for the unified second division, which will kick-off next month.”
