CAERSWS bid to finally prise themselves off the foot of the Welsh Premier when Bala Town visit on Saturday.

With basement rivals Elements Cefn Druids hosting Newtown the previous evening a victory over the Lakesiders could be enough to see the struggling Bluebirds jolt their season back to life.

Manager Mickey Evans was cautious ahead of Bala Town’s first ever league visit to the Recreation Ground.

“We have not played since December 12 at Aberystwyth and arguably that game should not have gone ahead because the pitch was frozen.

“We are desperate to get back into the swing of things but Bala Town will be a difficult side to take on.

“They are having a decent first season in the league and had a good win over Porthmadog last weekend.”

However Evans is confident his side could finally celebrate their second league victory of the season.

“We are working hard in training and are fully focused on the job in hand,” said Evans.

“We know it will be another big game but the players know how important it is to start getting some points on the board.”

New signing Phil Jones should make his debut in attack after arriving from Cymru Alliance strugglers Gresford Athletic but Evans admitted further squad strengthening is proving difficult.

Aberystwyth Town striker Andy Evans snubbed Caersws and Newtown in favour of Porthmadog while Cefn Druids midfielder Lee Jones rejected the Bluebirds advances in favour of Flint Town United.

Druids budget cuts have seen several players leave with captain Jones widely expected to be snapped up by a Welsh Premier club before opting to sign for his hometown club this week.

“It is disappointing as we had hoped to bring in a few faces by now but we there is still a couple of weeks left of this transfer window and we are all working hard to strengthen,” said Evans.

Meanwhile Evans has called for the league to consider a season extension following the month of postponements brought about by snow.

“Even a week would help,” he added, “every club is concerned at its fixture backlog right now and many games need re-arranging.”

Caersws midfielder Andy Davies is chomping at the bit for a return to action after a month of cancellations.

“Normally Christmas and New Year is packed with games so it has been frustrating waiting for the weather to improve.

“All the clubs are in the same boat and it is going to be a very busy second half of the season for every club.”
