Savage attack on the press wouldn’t have been my way...

WELL this week has seen a lot of games called off due to the weather and it’s nothing short of annoying.

When clubs have to call games off some are happy, some are not but you usually find out the ones that lose are the supporters. There is nothing worse when a team is on a good run of form to carry on, but if you are in a sticky patch then the break can be good.

What I say is that the people who have been shouting for a winter break over here got their wish - well sort of.

A few topics worth a mention this week would be the current situation at Cardiff City. Who knows what is going on behind closed doors, but people are not hearing the truth.

Things don’t add up and the fans are becoming increasingly frustrated and I don’t blame them at all.

The Jermaine Beckford saga will be worth keeping an eye on as the transfer request that he handed in was not excepted. When a player wants to move then it is very hard to keep that player as modern day football gives the player a lot of freedom. I think he will move - but to where is a big question.

Carlos Tevez has to be the signing of the season so far. Goals galore but his overall workrate and play make him a big plus. If he continues this form he will be a contender for the player of the year award and will definitely push Manchester City into the top four.

Robbie Savage made me laugh with his latest rant this week when he clashed with a Derby journalist. When asked why the team was under performing he started a tirade sticking up for the coaching staff.

Now I have a lot of respect for Sav, even though some of his comments have been out of order, but is this the right way to play the situation? I agree with sticking up for the coaches/players as a player (this is the same Sav who said the last manager was the worst ever when he was not in the team) but after losing 4-1 at home to Scunthorpe and after losing to Blackpool I’d just take it on the chin and say that it was not good enough but we will put it right next week.

Oh well - that’s what the papers want isn’t it, a bit of controversy?

Finally the MLS Superdraft is on with teams picking their young talent up and making roster moves before the start of the season. I will have more to report in next week’s column.
