Welshpool hand out drubbing

CAROLINE Jones showed no mercy with five goals as Welshpool outclassed Dysynni 8-0 in the first division of the North Wales Ladies’ League.


Welshpool never looked back after Sarah Thomas gave the home side a first minute advantage, before Jones took centre stage to give them the nap hand.


Nia Jones also netted before half-time, with the rout completed after the break with Ellie Morris getting on the score sheet.


Llanfair Caereinion took a skeleton squad to Rhyl and were encouraged by a battling display in a 3-2 defeat, with goals from Kate Ellis and Sarah Rudd keeping the Mid Wales side in contention.


Radnor Ladies were in formidable form in an 8-0 drubbing of Bridgend in the first division of the South Wales Ladies’ League.


Hayley Price starred with four goals, with a brace from Gwen Samuel and strikes from Helen Williams and Lindsay Jones completing the drubbing.


Kington lost 2-1 in the second division to Swansea Bay, with Catherine Jones on target for the border side.


Presteigne ended the first half of the Shropshire Ladies’ League season on a high, with Deb Evans opening the scoring in a 3-0 win over Wem.


Goals from Rita and Carrie Tomkins wrapped up the spoils after the break as Presteigne completed a comfortable victory.


Elsewhere Montgomery went down 3-1 at Telford, with Paula Hughes scoring a deserved consolation for the county town side.


Newtown Men were on the wrong end of a 6-1 mauling at Streetly in the Bodykraft Men’s West Midlands League.


Jon Atkinson reduced the arrears for Town but the Birmingham hosts prevailed thanks to Sam Bates’ hat-trick and a brace from Chris Booth. Matt Bates also netted to complete the rout.


Meanwhile Presteigne romped to a 6-1 win over Knighton in the South Powys Badgers League, with Sioned Price inspiring the victory with a nap hand while Georgie Evans also netted.


Knighton hit back with a deserved consolation goal from Josie Griffin, but the derby spoils belonged to Presteigne.
