Things turn sour in Salt Lake City

WE HAD beaten New York twice at home and also won the Canadian Cup after an unbelievable comeback against Montreal, and now faced a tricky match away at Salt Lake at their new Rio Tinto Stadium.
This was about our seventh game in 20 odd days so it would be tough, but also add into the equation that the match was at altitude and we had a horrendous day of travelling after flying to Chicago, and after getting delayed the omens did not seem good.

We were in a rich vein of form, and confidence was high as for 20 minutes we passed the ball well and created two chances, but then we gave away a bad goal after a silly back pass to go a goal down.

We had not been under pressure at all.

Then suddenly they broke into the box again as I closed down their man, and realising I was in the box could not touch him as he crossed the ball for Salt Lake to go two goals up.

We made changes at half time but were always chasing the game as we eventually lost 3-0. I got the feeling that they let us play for 20 minutes then decided to drive forward and put us under pressure, and we could not cope. All credit to Salt Lake but this was not a good performance by us, but we must move on.

We now have a weekend off as we don't play and we have been given four days off to relax and recuperate after a lot of games.

This rest is so important as we have another run of games coming up like the one we just completed.

I am writing this in Miami, as I have taken the family away to get a mini break. Seeing South Beach for the first time is fantastic, and watching the kids play in the sea was crazy with the waves knocking them over. I've seen and met a lot of British people over here and the weather is fantastic.

Pre-season starts back home for lots of clubs this week as they prepare for the big kick off. It is the hardest time for footballers as they get pushed, but as everyone knows it is so important.

I've also been busy putting some final touches to my website, as it nears completion. This will be a great way of people keeping a close eye on me even though I'm on the other side of the world.

Finally I just had some visitors over in Toronto last week as my mum came over too see her grandchildren.
