Landslide closes road as storms lash Powys

A MOUNTAIN road commonly used by ambulance crews to reduce response times has closed following a landslide.

The B4518 in Dylife, one mile west of the road between Llanidloes and Llanbrynmair, was closed after a large amount of earth and rocks fell onto the roadside on Wednesday.

The road had to be closed for repairs by Powys County Council highway crews from Llanidloes, meaning emergency services and other car users had to be diverted via Llanbrynmair and Carno.

A spokesperson for the Ambulance Service said: “It hasn’t caused any problems yet but that’s not to say it won’t affect us if the road remains closed for much longer.
“It is one of the networks we use to get to patients quickly and if it remains closed for much longer it could affect our response times.”

Kay Anderson, who witnessed the incident near to the Star Inn, added: “Lots of loose earth slid off the rocks and onto the road.

“The road has been closed for hours.”

Elsewhere heavy rainfall has led to many Powys roads being closed due to flooding.

The following roads have been closed this week as a result of flooding: A483 from Llandovery to Llandrindod Wells, A487 from Aberystwyth to Machynlleth, A458 from Welshpool to Mallwyd and Strand Street in Builth Wells.
