No need for Tesco

Published date: 01 October 2009 | Published by: Jessie Malone, Machynlleth

MACHYNLLETH is a lovely town and the council should be thanked for keeping its appearance so that it reflects the various phases in its long history. We have no need for another large store here as we already have the Spar at the end of the main street and the Co-op at the other. A Tesco store would only add to the problem of traffic which is a major problem.

If they do start building here I shall protest in all legitimate ways including sitting on the building site and I hope other people will join me.

How dare Jessie Malone (?) make such a broad statement as 'we have no need for another large store here'. What she should be saying is that SHE does not want one. How dare she speak for the town. Yes, Machynlleth is a lovely town, always has been and always will be thanks. The only trouble with Machynlleth is that we have far too many environmentalists living here who expect the rest of us to abide by their ideals - well no thanks.

I’m just wondering do all these anti Tesco protestors want Machynlleth to end up like a pre civilisation “theme park” maybe they would like to build a 30ft wall surrounding the town, so they can keep out any new developments in the future! When will these people understand more traffic equals more people, more people means more economy , and im sorry to shock you but more ECONOMY is the only way Machynlleth can survive,
