IT’S been a quiet week for me over the last 10 days as I picked up my fifth yellow card of the season against LA Chivas in California.
In that game we fell 2-0 in a disappointing match. The boys then had to go to Seattle and picked up a very creditable 0-0 draw - and on another day we might of won the game.
It was strange for me as I watched the match at home but was shouting and screaming at the TV and the referee. I think that this is the first weekend I have had off for nearly two years as usually I was away with Wales. It was great to get a rest in but after the rest I am now raring to go.
Unfortunately as I speak I went over on my ankle in training on Tuesday and sprained my ligaments so I now become doubtful for the weekend.
This is very annoying for me, especially as it was due to my foot getting stuck in the turf. There has been a lot said about the turf this season but let me tell you something - as a player I think it’s a very difficult surface.
Personally I hope it will change to grass very quickly, but when that will be who knows when...
This week we face a make or break week with two games against Colorado Rapids. The first game is away from home then at home the following week.
The next seven days will go a long way to deciding our play-off hopes for this season. Two wins and we are right back in the mix, but two defeats and we then would face an uphill battle.
As we approach the end of season here my family have gone back to the UK. This is a difficult time for me and a very lonely one too. I miss the little things like kicking ball with my son Milo and playing hide and seek with my daughter Lowri. I am a big softie at heart but a real family man.
The transfer deadline came and went with lots of moves in the final day as usual. It was great to see my pals James Collins and Danny Collins make big money moves to Aston Villa and Stoke City respectively.
But the best signing of the deadline for me was Nico Kranjcar who went from Portsmouth to Spurs for a reported 2.5 million pound.
For me the overpriced signing of the week was probably Michael Turner who went to Sunderland from Hull City. He joined Hull for £350,000 and was sold for over £12 million. Great business by Hull City.
Portsmouth also made a number of signings in and out.
It’s international week this weekend as Scotland face a massive few days with two wins needed. England play a friendly before the big one against Croatia. The Republic face a tricky game in Cyprus and Wales play Russia in Cardiff next Wednesday.
It will be great to see Wales’ match against Russia with all the youngsters set to start again, but I do believe that they could of done with Simon Davies and Gareth Bale in the squad for the big match.
With Wales we always seem to have players missing for the big games and once again that’s the case.
