UNIDENTIFIED Flying Objects spotted over Newtown were possibly Chinese Lanterns, it has been claimed.

A number of Newtown residents witnessed as many as 20 orange spherical objects in the sky over the town on Saturday night.

Jackie Davies, who lives at Crescent Gardens in Newtown, witnessed the spectacle and said it left her and her neighbours dumbfounded.

She said: "I was on the telephone at the time while my husband was outside having a cigarette and he shouted me to come and have a look.

"There were about 20 lights going over in the same direction, they were completely silent and they didn't all go over at once they went over in small groups."

The lights were bright orange and Jackie said: "It was just very weird and really eerie. The whole situation was very strange."

Jackie said the lights continued travelling over Newtown for an hour between 10pm and 11pm.

It has since been claimed the lights were Chinese Lanterns set off from a wedding party.

However, Jackie says she is not convinced by that explanation.
She said: "There's no way they were lanterns. They all went off in exactly the same direction, following each other.

"Other people have said they have seen stuff like that but they do not say anything because people think they are nuts."

Jackie added that people have since been keeping their eyes on the sky saying: "Every night now people go out an have a look and one neighbour has her video camera charged and ready."

UFO investigator, Phil Hoyle, said: "Many sightings have been reported over the last few months in the Mid Wales area and I'd be very interested to hear from anyone who has information to share."
