Firefighters in Newtown have paid tribute to their longest serving officer who has retired after almost 40 years helping to keep his local community safe.
Crew manager at Newtown Fire Station Darren Leach retired last week after serving the town for over three decades.
Darren joined the station in 1988 which was the start of an incredible career which has seen him dedicate 36 years to public service.
Crew manager Leach's final drill as the current longest serving member at Newtown Fire Station was on Thursday, March 28, which led to a warm tribute from his colleagues.
“Crew Manager Leach has attended numerous incidents not only in our area but far and wide across the UK," a post shared by Newtown Fire Station on social media said.
“We would like to thank him for his service and commitment during this time and also thank his wife Lisa, son Daniel and family for supporting him.
