A new store selling essentials at low and affordable prices has opened in the former Clarks store in Newtown town centre which will try to help its customers save “pounds instead of pennies”.

Ted’s – which stands for Terrific Everyday Deals - welcomed customers to its latest shop inside Bear Lanes Shopping Centre on Saturday, March 30.

A Ted’s spokesperson said: “We are opening up across the North West and the Midlands currently, and this is our second store in Wales, with our first opening in Rhyl earlier this year, which has been very well received.

“We are generally 50 per cent cheaper than supermarkets for many major food brands, some of our ambient products are short dated in terms of Best Before date which as we are all becoming aware is an arbitrary date that has no real impact on quality but does add up to a huge environmental cost in food waste at a time where the cost of living is an issue for the majority.

“We also look to support local suppliers for baked goods, dairy, eggs and meat so our customers can get a weekly shop at very low cost with excellent old-fashioned service.”

Built on the site of a former hotel, the shopping centre has 20 shop units including big High Street names such as New Look, Superdrug, WHSmith and The Works.

Bear Lanes is also home to independent businesses such as toys and collectables store Cave of Newtown, Mollie's sweet shop and the popular Express Cafe.
