Machynlleth Comedy Festival will be holding a series of special events at local restaurants during the 2024 event.

In a surprise announcement, organisers of the annual Mid Wales comedy festival lifted the lid on three new shows having seemingly revealed the last batch of acts earlier in March.

Among the surprise shows, the festival announced that it would be holding two small shows in Machynlleth restaurants, Ynyshir and Gwen Wine Bar & Restaurant.

Double Michelin Star-holding Ynyshir will host a miniature comedy club on Saturday, May 4, 10.30am, while Gwen will be welcoming guests on Sunday, May 5, at 11am.

Ynyshir is one of the most acclaimed restaurants in Mid Wales, having taken the top spot at the 2023 National restaurant Awards. Gwen, run by Head Chef Corrin Harrison who recently aced Great British Menu, was added to this year’s Michelin guide in 2024 after only opening last year.

Machynlleth Comedy Festival founder Henry Widdicombe said: "The festival has always had a tradition of trying to host unique gig experiences over the years.

"We've done gigs on the Dyfi Estuary, up mountains, in mountains, and obviously have our annual steam train gig and life drawing class."

OTHER NEWS:

"We first worked with Ynyshir a few years ago and the gig went really well, with audiences being served small appetisers between acts such as Nish Kumar and Mark Watson.

“So, we decided to build on that this year collaborating with both Ynyshir and Gwen in town".

"There aren't many better things for an area to be known for than good food and good comedy, and so we think it's an ideal partnership."

Both shows have quickly sold out, joining the packed schedule at the 2024 festival which is set to welcome some of the UK’s most popular and most acclaimed comedians.

As well as the two restaurant shows, Machynlleth Comedy Festival revealed that it will be adding a second show from comedian Mike Wozniak at the Owain Glyndwr Centre due to popular demand, which has also quickly sold out.

The show joined performances from James Acaster, Miles Jupp, Bridget Christie, Sophie Duker, Mark Watson, Josh Widdicombe, Kiri Pritchard Mclean and musical comedy duo Flo & Joan, all of which have also sold out.

Machynlleth Comedy Festival is scheduled to take place between Friday, May 3, and Sunday, May 5.
