A fell runner had to be rescued from a mountainside close to the Powys border after falling and injuring his leg.

On Saturday, March 16, Aberdyfi Search & Rescue Team were called to rescue a 64-year-old man from Somerset who had sustained an injury to his leg at Tarren y Gesail, above Abergynolwyn near Corris.

The man had injured his ankle following a slip whilst fell-running and was unable to bear weight on his injured leg, leading to the call-out at about 1.45pm.

However, as the team were the team was deploying to Abergynolwyn to attend the incident, a second call-out was received, describing a man trapped in a ravine near Llangynog.

The team from Aberdyfi, which included a volunteer who farms land in the area, was able to use hill tracks to drive to within a kilometre of the casualty at Abergynolwyn as other volunteers made their way to the incident. 

The man's ankle was splinted, and he was stretchered over boggy ground down to the trailhead for transport down the hill in a team vehicle.

The injured man was driven to Ysbwty Gwynedd by friends for further treatment.
