A book exploring the history of south Newtown has been praised as a “real gem” by BBC Springwatch presenter Iolo Williams.

Newtown and District Civic Society’s latest book about the area’s buildings and character will be launched at Crescent Christian Centre at 7.30pm on Tuesday (March 12) with a lecture by Edward Parry which will delve into Newtown's fascinating past and celebrate its enduring legacy.

The third volume of Explore Newtown marks the completion of the society's survey of the town's buildings, focusing on the area ‘South of the Centre’.

From the town's 19th Century growth to its resurgence in the 1960s, this book chronicles Newtown's evolution through vivid descriptions and captivating photographs.

Renowned local naturalist and broadcaster, Iolo Williams, who lives near Newtown, has praised the book as "a real gem," highlighting its documentation of significant historical events and disappearing landmarks.
