An historic church in Powys is set to be sold at an online auction next month.

On April 11, St Michael’s Church in Llanfihangel-yng-Ngwynfa will go up for auction in an online sale, with a guide price of just £55,000.

The church’s current structure dates back to the 1800s and has overlooked the rural village for over 150 years.

In 2020 the church was forced to closed due to the condition of the building, with the Diocese of St Asaph announcing that the decision to close the church had been made by the community after it became clear that the costs of repairing the building were too much.

At least 200 people gathered in the church for its final Plygain Fawr in January 2020.

While the building itself is up for sale, the sale does not include the church’s external grounds.

A right to maintain the exterior of the structure will be granted and all the adjacent graveyard is to be retained and public access maintained at all times.
