A new set of bird boxes have been installed above a Co-Op in Powys as part of a project to increase swift numbers in the area.

The Dyfi Biosphere Swift Project added to their collection of bird boxes throughout Machynlleth with a new set of specially made fibreglass nest boxes.

The boxes were constructed by the Wrexham based company Impeckable nest boxes and feeders and installed with the help of Elfyn Pugh, who has worked with Dyfi Biosphere’s Swift Project in the past and sponsored some of their other bird boxes located in Machynlleth.

The project has installed several bird boxes throughout the Dyfi Biosphere, in the hopes of providing the endangered birds with refuge when they arrive back from migration in the spring.

Beginning in 2021, the Dyfi Biosphere Swift Project planned to install swift nesting boxes on suitable buildings throughout the Dyfi Biosphere to provision new nesting sites.

In less than a year, the group had managed to install a total of 80 boxes across the valley.

They added to that total in 2023 and hope to make even more progress throughout 2024.
