A POWYS woman wanted in connection with committing two hate crimes has been told she must appear at court next week.

Tanya Roe, from Machynlleth, is accused of assaulting Jitendrakumar Kishormbhai at the town’s Red Lion pub on July 27 last year – a charge that was alleged to be racially aggravated.

Roe, 40, had been due to appear at Welshpool Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, February 20, to answer a total of four charges, but she failed to attend.

As well as the alleged assault on the complainant, Roe is also accused of damaging property on the same day, namely a door and table, at the Maengwyn Street pub, belonging to Jitendrakumar Kishormbhai, which was also described on the charge sheet as being racially aggravated.

She is also accused of a second assault on the complainant with no racial element.

County Times:

A fourth offence relates to Roe failing to comply with a community protection notice. The charge states that on November 25 last year, at her Tregarth home, Roe failed to comply with the notice by playing loud music between 10pm-8am.

Magistrates initially issued an arrest warrant for the two racially aggravated offences – due to the fact they are either way matters, meaning they can be heard either at the crown court or at magistrates court – but they withdrew it after the defendant contacted the court to explain her absence, which was due to medical reasons.

Instead, they adjourned the case a week, with Roe due to appear in Welshpool on Tuesday, February 27.
