Powys businessman Paul Delves has left his role as director and vice-chairman of Shrewsbury Town Football Club with immediate effect.

The League One side announced today (Friday, February 2) that Mr Delves has decided to concentrate on his other business interests.

Mr Delves joined the board at Shrewsbury Town FC in 2020 and was appointed the club’s vice chairman in April 2021. His family’s Churchstoke-based mineral water bottling company Montgomery Waters was the title sponsor for the club’s ground at Oteley Road in Shrewsbury until last year.

Mr Delves was managing director of Harry Tuffins, a well-known Powys family-run store chain that was founded in Churchstoke by his grandfather and grandmother in the 1950s.

The Delves family agreed to sell its 10 businesses in Powys, Shropshire, Flintshire and Gloucestershire to Midcounties Co-op in 2012.  Mr Delves bought the Craven Arms supermarket back, returning it to the family.

A new convenience store and forecourt was opened in Welshpool in October 2018 which changed ownership five years later to Rontec UK and is now a Morrisons Daily store with a Greggs bakery.

In a statement issued on Friday, the League One side said: “Shrewsbury Town regret to announce that Paul Delves is stepping down as a director and vice-chairman of the club with immediate effect.

“The Chairman and the Board would like to thank Paul for his service over the past four years as he decides to focus on his multiple other business interests.

“Shrewsbury Town wish Paul well and every success in the future.”
