Planning permission has been granted to build a set of yurts as a coffee shop and community hub at the back of a Powys pub.

The Cross Keys Inn in Llanfyllin has been granted planning permission by Powys County Council to build a yurt and a pair of gazebos to the rear of the pub to be used as a community meeting point.

In their planning application to the council, owner Darren Mayor said: “Currently the area which we wish to develop is the tarmac garden space to the rear of the Cross Keys.

“We wish to make it a more usable and inviting space to those using the Crosskeys which is a coffee shop and community hub.”

The area will undergo a renovation which will see it have two gazebos built as well as the yurt, a timber fence and will see improvements to the garden area of the pub.

Mr Mayor added: “We have sought pre planning advice through Powys County Council and based on the advice we have received we wish to apply for the erection of a 6 meter diameter Yurt on a larch base.

“The garden space will then have raised beds for plants and large pots for other plants and trees.

“Furthermore along the back of the Crosskeys leading to the garden space are two sets of patio doors and a single door. The plan is to have along that area two free standing heavy-duty wooden Leviathan Gazebo's - supplied by Dunster House.

“All timber is pressure treated slow grown spruce. The roof on the Gazebos to run the length of the back of the Crosskeys 6m by 3m and 3m by 3m - will be black shingle.

“Water from the roofs will be either fed into water butts or into down pipes which will feed into existing drainage system. This will provide us with outdoor usable space no matter the weather.”
