A Powys based band borrowed money from a local business to record their debut album after at a legendary Welsh studio.

Shop Front Heroes, the dynamic five-piece original rock band from Powys and the border area have released their debut album ‘Superpowers’ today (December 1).

Formed in early 2017, Shop Front Heroes comprises Llandrindod Wells-born frontman Stevie Yeomans, lead guitarist Jake Owen, drummer Matt Whitehouse, guitarist Tom Jaques and, completing the lineup in the summer of 2022, bassist Alex Middleton.

The band raised money locally including borrowing money off a local business to record the album at the iconic Welsh Rockfield Studios, which has hosted acts such as Queen’s "Bohemian Rhapsody", Oasis, Manic Street Preachers, Robert Plant, and Coldplay.

Lead singer, Stevie Yeomans, said: "Recording 'SuperPowers' was such an organic, wholesome, and nutritious process. We kept everything about it so real, and as an independent band, we tried to swing the bat as hard as we could to make it."

"We borrowed money from a local business to fund it, wrote all the songs in a barn on a hill, just outside our houses, produced the album ourselves, and spent two weeks hanging out together at the spiritual rock mecca that is Rockfield Studios in Wales to record it."

Their debut album, 'SuperPowers' is the “culmination of Shop Front Heroes' musical journey” he album was expertly mixed by Stew Jackson, known for his work with Massive Attack, Emily Breeze, and Marc Ford and mastered by Sean Magee, renowned for his contributions to The Beatles, Queen, Rush, and Radiohead at the iconic Abbey Road Studios.

The album features collaborations with string players from Yeomans' past, guest appearances from friends and former bandmates and a male voice choir from near Rhayader.

The album comes after months of teasing and the release of singles like “Killer” and “Caer Bryn” – channelling the influences of legendary acts like Queen, Shop Front Heroes immersed themselves in the magic of Rockfield Studios.

The album represents SFH’s signature sound and their unwavering passion for creating music that transcends genres and leaves an indelible mark on the listener.

SuperPowers is out on Pink Vinyl, CD and all Digital Platforms from December 1 2023.
