Llanfyllin based arts group, Arts Connection, has announced that it will continue to receive grants from the Arts Council of Wales.

The group held its annual general meeting and released its yearly report, looking back on a 2023 that saw them hold over 360 workshops.

The organisation devoted to inspiring people in Mid Wales to participate in the arts, hoping to enhance their creativity and wellbeing, looked back on the last 12 months while also making plans for their 30th anniversary in 2024.

OTHER NEWS:

As other groups across Wales have seen their funding cut following an investment review, Arts Connection stated in their report that they will continue with their Portfolio Award from the council.

Over the course of the year the organisation orchestrated dozens of workshops, activities and events under its Arts for All programme, aimed at introducing people of all ages to arts, particularly young people and families.

The programme saw the group lead art workshops in Llanfyllin for St Myllin’s Day, hosted a variety of outdoor singalongs throughout the town with their Singing For Fun sessions and resumed their monthly life drawing sessions at the Youth and Community Centre, hosted a community cinema club and a Youth Arts Cafe.

Arts Connection chair, local artist and group leader Dux, wrote in the report: “Arts Connection have been doing what we do in Mid Wales for almost 30 years, in fact 2024 will be our 30th Anniversary of providing brilliant community arts projects to local people.

“It’s been a tough year but we keep on keeping on creating local spaces for everyday people to connect with art, with nature and with each other. It’s our mission and our true belief that the arts can and do have a positive and transformational effect on individual and community lives and we see this happen in our work.

County Times:

“Once again, I’d like to applaud Arts Manager Siân Walters and the team for their creativity and constant commitment during challenging times.

“Our new home at The Workhouse is working out well. It is our hub, our heart and our storeroom and is increasingly becoming an incredible platform for arts encounters.

“I’m pleased and proud to announce the continuation of our Portfolio Award from the Arts Council of Wales following a large-scale Investment Review Process. Some of our network partners lost core funding and as such the cultural landscape of Wales will be less vivid. We hope that these partner organisations can find ways to continue their important work and wish them well.”
