A charity shop in Machynlleth has unveiled the latest in what has become a series of window displays, with the newest being a tribute to Barbie.

As Greta Gerwig’s Barbie film opened in cinemas across the county last week, Machynlleth’s Credu shop unveiled its own version of the phenomenon with an eye-catching window display.

The display was put together by Credu employee Owen Herbert, who started volunteering for the charity two years ago and has since become a full-time employee.

He said: “The first window display I put together for Credu was during the Machynlleth Comedy Festival. I wanted to make something that would stand out with so many new faces visiting Machynlleth for the event. Then it picked up from there as a regular feature.

“I had the idea for a Barbie theme a few weeks ago, as I usually try to theme them around something that’s happening locally or in the wider world, so I thought the movie coming out would be great inspiration and would fit in nicely.”

County Times:

Despite being out for less than a week, Barbie has already become one of the biggest box office successes of the year, earning an estimated $365 million in its opening weekend, becoming the highest ever opening for a film directed by a woman.

Starring Margot Robbie as the iconic doll, the film, alongside Christopher Nolan’s film about atomic bomb creator Oppenheimer, set the UK-Ireland box office double debut record as the first time two films opening in the same weekend earned more than £10 million.

But for that reason, Owen still has not had the chance to see it yet.

He added: “I haven’t been able to see it myself yet since every screening I’ve looked at has been sold out.

“The display only took a few hours to put together, after coming up with the layout and knowing what we needed to make. The biggest struggle was frantically looking through the shop for an item of clothing that was pink enough.

“I think this is the most unique display we’ve made so far. I think they have all been nice but this one really stands out, not just from the rest of the shop but also from the rest of the high street.

“We’ve had plenty of compliments from customers and I’m already developing some ideas for what the next few might be.”
