SWS on the Loose is back this weekend with more football, music and fun for all the family to raise money for local good causes in memory of three Caersws lads who tragically died at a young age.
More than £16,000 was raised at last year’s event at The Recreation in memory of Casey Breese, Thomas Evans, and Owen Bennett which organisers hope to emulate with Saturday’s event (June 3) at The Rec from 9.30am then at the neighbouring field at Seasons Café for live music.
The village’s new multi-use games area will also have its grand opening on the day.
Karl Wigley, one of the organisers, said: “I was very overwhelmed. I think on the day I don’t think it hit us how big it was but when we counted the money we were like ‘wow’ it was hectic but definitely worth doing.
“Everybody is welcome, you don’t have to know the lads personally, it’s a fun day out for the family.”
Stalls, raffles, bouncy castles, food, and drink will be available on site, and profits will be spread out to local charities.
Organisers say a mini-bus will be running to neighbouring towns and villages so everyone can get home safely.
Casey lost his life while playing with friends at the Rec after a goalpost fell on him more than 10 years ago. His brother-in-law Winnie died aged 34 in a car crash between Caersws and Trefeglwys in September 2021. Young carpenter Owen Bennett died aged 18 in a crash outside Aberhafesp on May 2, 2022.
