A FATHER-of-two “became crazy” after taking cocaine, picking up a knife and assaulting his girlfriend who had organised a trip to Powys for his birthday.

Terance Moriarty Judge had been brought to mid Wales for a romantic trip for his birthday on October 8 last year by his then-partner.

The couple, from Yorkshire, had been staying at a holiday lodge at New Mills, between Newtown and Llanfair Caereinion, but the 35-year-old became aggressive after drinking and taking cocaine.

The 35-year-old slapped his victim and spat at her during the ordeal, which occurred at around 5am, after he had returned to the property having earlier left in the victim’s car.

At Welshpool Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, May 16, Judge admitted one charge of assault, and two of criminal damage.

Prosecutor Helen Tench said: “The female said she had been in a relationship with the defendant for around four months. She said the only issue she had was when he takes cocaine.

“She had organised a weekend away for his birthday. They had been drinking and during the evening she saw him taking cocaine. She asked him not to and within 20 minutes he became crazy.

“He became aggressive and she told him to f*** off. He took a knife from a draw and placed it in his waistband, before he took her keys and said he was going to smash her car.

“He left and she locked all the doors. She recalled him coming back sometime the next morning and heard him banging on the doors.

“He slapped her hard on her face and she grabbed a portable speaker and threw it at the defendant, she didn’t know what else to do. He also spat at her.

“She can be heard sounding distressed on a call to the police. The phone was put down and the responder rang back; the defendant answered the call saying ‘please come to this address’."

She added that when arrested, he told one officer "f*** off, you melt", and spat blood inside the police van.

“Peter Cordingly is the owner of the lodge and said there was damage caused to the lock; he also said he was removing blood from various areas," Ms Tench said.

County Times:

Mrs Tench said the damage at the lodge included a towel, bedsheets, a door and yale lock stable door, amounting to £550.

Acting for the defendant, of Cliffe Park Crescent, Wortley, near Sheffield, Owain Jones said his client had pleaded guilty to the assault charge on the basis that he did not use or threaten his victim with a knife.

“I concede there are other aggravating features that maintain high culpability," he said. "The knife was not used."

He said Judge was "of previous good character”.

Magistrates adjourned sentencing until June 6. Judge was granted conditional bail.
