A FORESTRY worker caught speeding will have to be careful after he had 6 points placed on his driving licence.

Joseph Bicknell, from Knucklas, near Knighton, admitted driving at a speed of 53 miles per hour in a 30mph zone in Herefordshire on June 24 last year when he appeared at Welshpool Magistrates’ Court earlier this week.

Bicknell, 25, was driving a Nissan van on the A417 at Ashperton when he was caught by a speed van. He previously admitted speeding and was sentenced at a hearing on Tuesday, April 18.

Acting for Bicknell, of Rock House, Knucklas, Rob Hanratty, said: “He works for his dad in the forestry on a big estate, felling ash trees.

“He was not paying attention to the fact the speed limit had changed. He is a hard-working young man and I would urge you to give him points as opposed to an automatic ban as a ban would have a significant impact on him."

Mr Hanratty said Bicknell currently has 3 points on his licence.

The 6 points now means he has 9 on his licence, with magistrates also fining him £350; they also told him to pay a £140 surcharge and £85 costs.
