RING doorbell footage captured a man’s foul-mouthed tirade against his then girlfriend after they became embroiled in a drunken argument on New Year’s Day.

Simon Baker, 40, was seen and heard by witnesses to be shouting and swearing outside a property in Llansantffraid in the early hours of New Year’s Day, and hitting his fists on the door of the house of his then-partner.

Baker pleaded guilty to one charge of threatening behaviour on January 1 this year when he appeared at Welshpool Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, February 21.

Prosecutor Helen Tench said a witness had heard shouting at about 12.20am.

“She went to bed but around half an hour later she heard the defendant shouting again; he was hitting his fists on a door and was shouting and swearing," Ms Tench said.

“He was calling the female inside a whore, a slut and a hoe, and accused her of (cheating on him). Police arrived and arrested the defendant."

Another witness heard the insults and provided Ring doorbell footage. Ms Tench said the incident lasted about 20 minutes.

Acting for Baker, of Trafalgar Court, Tividale, near Birmingham, Rob Hanratty said his client had come to Powys to celebrate New Year’s Eve with his girlfriend.

County Times:

“It was his girlfriend’s place. He had moved down to Llansantffraid and they intended to spend New Year’s Eve together,” said Mr Hanratty.

“They drank lots of alcohol. The initial incident started inside but spilled outside. He was also being sworn at. He is embarrassed by the situation and apologises for it. He feels quite ashamed.”

Magistrates fined Baker £266 and ordered him to pay a £106 surcharge and £85 costs.
