A Welshpool pet owner is warning others to be on alert after her cat was shot with an air rifle.

Stephanie Miller’s cat, Rocket, had to be rushed to the vets for life saving surgery after she came in into the house bleeding yesterday (February 9).

“I assume it happened Wednesday evening,” said Ms Miller. “We noticed a bit of blood in the bathroom sink after she had been laying in there.

“We took her to the vets yesterday and they x-rayed her to find a pellet in her pelvis. She had to have an operation straight away but she is recovering extremely well, although due to her being an old lady the vet wants to keep her in until Monday so she can stay on a drip.”

Ms Miller, who lives in the Gallowstone Bank area, said this is the first time she had heard anything like this happen in the area and is warning other pet owners in the area to be on their guard.

OTHER NEWS:

“I was in absolute shock when I first found out and my main concern was to get her seen to,” said Ms Miller.

“Now that it has sunk in what has happened, I am vexed.

“I live on a really lovely estate and I can't imagine anyone who lives here doing that – it’s so, so cruel.”

Dyfed Powys Police have confirmed Mrs miller had been in contact and said: “On Thursday, 9 February, we received a report of a cat being shot with an air rifle in the previous days.”

A spokesperson confirmed that this was the only report of an attack on an animal in the area saying there had been no similar calls this year.
