DEGREE courses are to be offered at a Powys high school as part of a partnership with an EFL football club's community foundation.

Welshpool High School is partnering with Shrewsbury Town College and University to run a number of degrees, with various courses on offer for students looking to get into the sporting industry.

Courses on offer include sports business and management, community football coaching and development, and sports coaching and development.

Shrewsbury Town College and University was set up by Shrewsbury Town FC Foundation in partnership with SCL Education.

Jon Arnold, head teacher of Welshpool High School said: “I am delighted that Welshpool High School will be able to host this unique opportunity in partnership with Shrewsbury Town College and University and University South Wales.

“The courses offer a fantastic option for further studies and the sporting element is something very close to my heart. Hopefully students will be able to access a world of opportunities that are open through this route.

“The school and local area is full of talented sports students, and it is our ambition to provide them with a local alternative to studying away from home.
