Residents of a Powys village have bemoaned an “epidemic” of missing or misplaced deliveries in the town.

Since October, enquiries over parcels going astray from delivery company Evri have increased in Berriew.

In what some residents have described as a “daily occurrence”, parcels and packages delivered are reported to have been delivered to the wrong address or left in improper or unsuitable locations.

Berriew resident Ruth Raymer said: “Obviously misplaced parcels in rural areas isn’t a new thing, and we understand mistakes happen, but it’s been getting worse here over the past few months.

“Since October the rate of deliveries has been absolutely appalling, as our Facebook page is regularly bombarded with posts of misplaced parcels being delivered to the wrong addresses.

“Just recently I’ve had two parcels that disappeared without a trace, while another was delivered but to a house on the other side of Berriew.

“We’re rural but we’re not exactly in the middle of nowhere, in fact our house is only 20 yards away from the main road from Welshpool so it’s far from impossible to find.

“We have to cover the extra cost of these errors, and in the midst of a cost-of-living crisis it’s an extra expense we could all do without.”

Another Berriew local, Ben Carpenter, spoke of similar experiences with Evri deliveries.

He said: “Over the years I have had multiple packages left in the wrong place or lost.

“We’ve had multiple packages left in our wheelie bin about 700m from our house, on the ground in the middle of our track, in the wet grass next to the bin, Covid tests left in the rain by the road, and multiple packages left for other addresses.

“I have no faith, after all this time and so much ridiculously bad service, that the company will change.”

In a statement, Evri said: “We apologise to anyone who has been affected by these issues in the area. We have clear standards about how and where parcels should be left if recipients aren’t in and we have a number of checks in place to ensure correct delivery such as safe place photos and geolocation.

“We will fully investigate these claims but in the unlikely event that a parcel hasn’t been delivered within 10 days, we would advise customers to contact their retailer/seller who will in turn contact us if necessary.”
