A BRIGHTON man has been fined after he was stopped by police in Powys, with cannabis worth around £100 seized from his car.

Marcus Wiliam Henson, 28, admitted one charge of possessing cannabis when he appeared at Llandrindod Wells Magistrates’ Court this week.

Henson, of Langley Crescent, Brighton, was stopped on September 2 last year in the Builth Road area, just outside Builth Wells.

Prosecutor Stephen Davies told the court on Wednesday, January 4, that police found around 10 grams of the Class B drug in Henson’s car.

“PC Coombs was on duty, he conducted a vehicle stop, there were 2 occupants in the car and they smelt of cannabis,” said Mr Davies.

“They searched the defendant and cannabis was seized from his backpack. It weighed roughly 10 grams, with an approximate street value of £100. The defendant admitted it was his, to smoke.”

Henson, representing himself as he appeared at the hearing via videolink, did not wish to say anything in his defence, although he admitted to the court he had recently started a new job.

Magistrates fined him £230 and ordered him to pay a £96 surcharge and £85 costs. They also ordered the destruction of the cannabis.
