A POWYS motorist has been punished after he was caught both speeding and driving while using his mobile phone.

Kieran Simon Goodfellow, 24, admitted charges of speeding excessively and using his mobile while travelling on the Welshpool bypass earlier this year.

He was caught doing 88 miles per hour in a BMW on the A483 at around 6.39pm on April 27, while at the same time using his phone.

Goodfellow, of St Micheals Crescent, Forden, near Welshpool, admitted both offences. He did not appear at Llanelli Magistrates' Court on Monday, November 14, where he was fined nearly £500.

He was fined £122 and handed 6 points for using his mobile while driving. For speeding at 28 miles over the legal limit, he was fined another £245. He must also pay £90 costs and a £36 surcharge – making a total of £493.
