Fay Jones MP has been given a new Government role as the Prime Minister's reshuffle continued this week.

The Brecon and Radnorshire MP has joined former Welsh Secretary and newly-appointed Chief Whip Simon Hart's team as an assistant government whip.

Mr Hart was brought in as Chief Whip to restore party discipline, with Mr Sunak having warned the party: “Unite or die.”

On Thursday evening, Ms Jones said it was an "absolute honour" to be part of the new Prime Minister's ministerial line-up.

"After a brief hiatus, I’m back on Simon Hart MP’s team - this time in the Whips Office," she tweeted.

"An absolute honour to be part of Rishi Sunak’s ministerial lineup, getting his agenda through Parliament."

Whips are MPs that help organise their party's contribution to parliamentary business. One of their responsibilities is making sure the maximum number of their party members vote, and vote the way their party wants.

Fay Jones has served in the Government as Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Leader of the House of Commons and in the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs since being elected in December 2019 to represent her mid and south Powys constituents.

On July 6 this year, Fay Jones said she would formally resign from her role as PPS to Leader of the House of Commons if Boris Johnson did not step down as Prime Minister by the following day. Boris Johnson spoke to the country to confirm his resignation on July 7 after almost 60 MPs quit government or party posts.

Earlier this week, Montgomeryshire MP Craig Williams was awarded a new role working directly for the Prime Minister as his Parliamentary Private Secretary.

Mr Williams has been a long-time supporter of Mr Sunak, backing him in the leadership contest in the summer.

The pair have worked closely together before when Mr Williams served as a Parliamentary Private Secretary for Mr Sunak when he had the office of Chancellor of the Exchequer in Boris Johnson’s government.
