VISITORS could be invited to leave donations at Welshpool Town Hall when it opens as a "warm hub" at the end of this month.

On October 19, charities, businesses and volunteers met with Welshpool Town Council representatives to organise donations and contributions that could be made towards the proposed Warm Hub in the Town Hall.

The council is planning to open the hub at the end of the month, and is accepting donations of food, drinks, basic supplies, entertainment and any resources that could be useful to people either at the hub or to take back to their own homes.

It was also proposed that a take and leave scheme be introduced, where people visiting the hub can donate items if they wish to.

Town Clerk Anne Wilson said of the meeting: “It was really good, with lots of people attending from community groups and organisations, as well as people simply interested in volunteering in whatever way they could.

OTHER NEWS:

“With the amount of resources we have, the hope is that this won’t just be a warm hub but rather a social community hub, a place for people to meet and help each other in any way they can.

“We want to talk to people when they come here, as well as offering help and advice, but also just socialise in a friendly environment.”

The initiative is still looking for advisers to consult people on energy bills at a later date, as well as extra volunteers to help with the organisation and donation of items.

The Town Council is planning to open the Town hall as a Warm Hub on Tuesday, October 31.

The hub will be open every Tuesday and Thursday from 10am to 5pm in the Town Hall's Assembly Room.
