NANTMEL Show and Sports will be one of the final events of the local show calendar later this month.

The event, celebrating its 45th anniversary, will be held at Maes-y-Gelli Farm just off the A44 Rhayader to Crossgates road on Saturday, September 24, by kind permission of Bryan & Sophia Pugh.

Admission for adults will be £3 with children under 16 getting in for £1.50 and under 5's going free.

The show will be opened at 1.30pm by Rob Powell and this year’s show president is Gordon Davies, of Neuaddllwyd, who has been involved with Nantmel Show from the beginning, way back in 1977.

Organisers will be putting on the usual sheep, horse, dog and sheep shearing competitions, as well as vintage sections, athletics, dog racing and a horticultural marque with children’s, cookery, preserves, needlework and craft, agriculture craft, garden produce and a cut flower and floral art Section. New this year will be a darts competition.

As past years the Wye Valley Axe Men will be in attendance with various competitions going on throughout the day and organisers will also have Panic Circus to entertain the children.
